Chillies and capsicum are used to make many types of dishes. It is very easy to grow it at home, just a few things must be taken care of. Let's see how it is grown:
Choose the Right Variety:
Select a variety is very important like Sweet Peppers, Hot Chilies and Ornamental Peppers.
Choose a growing site:
Use pots, grow bags or garden beds with good drainage to grow it. It requires 6-8 hours of sunlight per day.
Prepare the soil:
Use well-drained, fertile soil with a pH of slightly acidic to neutral (6.0-6.8) to grow it.
Sowing the seeds:
Sow the seeds 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix and keep them moist. Maintain a temperature of 70-85°F. Germination takes 7-14 days. Transplant the seedlings when they are 4-6 inches tall.
Sowing the seedlings:
Buy healthy seedlings from a nursery and plant them directly in prepared soil.
Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist, but not wet. Water deeply 1-2 times a week. Do not wet the leaves to avoid fungal diseases.
Provide support to the plant:
Use stakes or cages to support the plants, to prevent branches from breaking under the weight of the fruit.
Fertilize:
Use a balanced fertilizer rich in phosphorus and potassium every 2-3 weeks. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which promotes leaf rather than fruit production.
Pruning and Maintenance
Remove yellow or damaged leaves for healthy growth. Cut off the first few flowers initially to focus on root and foliage growth. use organic pesticides for pests.
Harvesting:
When the chillies and capsicums are the desired size and colour, harvest them. Use garden shears to do this, leaving a little stem attached.
