Soothing Cough Syrup

Marshmallow root mucilage soothes sore throat and provides relief from cough. Steep dried marshmallow root in hot water to make tea, or use lozenges and syrups containing marshmallow root for instant relief.

Soothe an upset stomach

The coating properties of marshmallow root can soothe an upset stomach. Drink marshmallow root tea or take a diluted tincture to ease stomach discomfort.

Skin Soothing

The anti-inflammatory properties of marshmallow root may be helpful for irritated skin. Use a cream or salve containing marshmallow root to relieve eczema, dry skin, or insect bites.

Moisturizing Hair Treatment

Some people find that marshmallow root hair rinse can add shine and condition hair. Soak the marshmallow root and use the cool liquid as a final rinse after shampooing. (A patch test is recommended before applying it directly to hair.)

Culinary use (with caution)

Some people use a small amount of marshmallow root powder to thicken soup, stew, or marshmallows (the candy, not the plant!). (Consult reliable sources for safe culinary use and dosage, as consuming large amounts of marshmallow root can be harmful).
