Root: Adventitious, fibrous roots arising from the stem base and stem nodes; roots provide anchorage on tree bark or porous growing media and efficiently absorb moisture and nutrients. Nodes may root readily under humid conditions

Stem: Trailing, slender, succulent to semi-woody, highly branched, green to reddish-brown, flexible when young, becoming slightly woody with age; stems are pendulous and may root at the nodes

Leaf: Opposite, petiolate, simple, elliptic to ovate, 3–8 cm long; margin entire, exstipulate; leaves thick, fleshy, velvety to glossy, dark green above and lighter green beneath, with prominent midrib and lateral veins

Inflorescence: Solitary or few-flowered axillary cymes, borne at the leaf axils along mature stems

Flower: Bracteate, complete, zygomorphic, bisexual, hypogynous; flowers large, tubular, bright scarlet, orange-red, or crimson, often with yellow markings, resembling a leaping goldfish; nectar-rich and adapted for bird pollination
